Indian Naval Ship VIKRANT-R11

The word Vikrant is  taken from Sanskrit language giving a meaning :"Stepping Beyond", "Courageous" in terms of fighting under the first command-Captain Pritam Singh.

The ship was once names as HMS Hercules for British Royal Navy during world war II, and was put on hold after the war end and that never returned back to British service (interesting ...isn't).

Later Indian purchased from the United Kingdom in 1957, and completed the whole remaining project in 1961.

She was commisioned for a cost a cost of $0.5bn but $3.75bn to date.


Later again it was decommissioned in Jan 1997 till 2012 she was preserved as a museum ship in Mumbai and due to some safety concerns it was completely closed in 2012 . Interesting fact here the whole ship was auctioned Online as a piece of metal for the BAJAJ company. BAJAJ doesnt want her legacy to go in vain .

SHE was main fighter ship in the Indo-Pak war 1971 even after serving the nation for 4 decades. 

She has 192 m long waterline and 213.3 m extreme moreover the beam dimensions measure about 24.2 m waterline and 39 m extreme.
